Everybody needs a team, and to be part of a supportive community! Meet ours.
I developed type 1 diabetes at the age of 8, but it wasn’t until I was 9 that I was formally diagnosed three weeks after my 9th birthday (September, 1991). The internet was just a blossoming idea at the time and my parents were scared out of their minds! We didn’t have a computer; we didn’t have Google. We didn’t have this invaluable, endless network of information at their fingertips, what we now lovingly refer to as the diabetes online community #DOC (hooray for technological advances!)
Diabetes Dominator is much more than a web URL. Diabetes Dominator is a mindset; a way of thinking, acting, and being. Diabetes Dominator is a (superhero) identity that I had to create and embody over the course of the past 25 years in order to go from struggling with diabetes to thriving. Through many trials and tribulations, great successes and horrible scares (including a number of seizures and hospitalizations), after years of frustration, as well as mental and physical struggles, the Diabetes Dominator mindset was forged. Diabetes Dominator is an identity and mentality that can be (and is encouraged to be) adopted by anyone who so CHOOSES to step up and be accountable, any person who takes responsibility for their actions and does not place blame for current situations or circumstances on another person, thing, or event.
I have dedicated my life and my studies to becoming an expert on the management of day to day diabetes practices. I have had type 1 diabetes for 25 years, and have gone through 3 stages of life with the disease thus far including childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. In my opinion learning, growing, and contributing never stop if we desire a fulfilling life, and because of this I have done (and will always continue to do) research on many topics including diabetes, psychology, nutrition, emotional and spiritual wellness, mindfulness, cooking, exercise science, and anatomy & physiology.
I do volunteer work with the American Diabetes Association including speaking at various YMCA’s and Boys & Girls clubs, and presenting at Camp Freedom, a camp for diabetic children. I have also had the honor of working with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia who has earned the No. 1 spot on U.S. News & World Report’s 2013-14 Honor Roll of the nation’s Best Children’s Hospitals, where I’ve taught children and parents how to live a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise choices, as well as tips and strategies to use when coping with the emotional roller coaster of newly diagnosed diabetes. I have been quoted in Diabetes Forecast Magazine, featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Insulin Nation, DiabetesMine, Diabetic Connect, and have presented at Fortune 100 companies teaching people how to live the life they imagined through optimal health. I am also grateful to be the Community Ambassador and to create content for DiabetesDaily!
Because of my never-ending quest for knowledge and desire to conquer my own body and mind, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science, became certified personal trainer, personal chef, and nutritionist so as to understand how to dominate diabetes both mentally, nutritionally, and with physical fitness. I am also extensively trained in the psychology of why we think, act, and feel the way we do as human beings on a day to day basis, and the emotional toll diabetes takes on our lives.Diabetes Dominator is a homepage, not just in the sense of the internet, but the “home” I wish was available to me and my parents when I was first diagnosed and in the sensitive and trying first few years with the disease. It is a blog/vlog full of inspiring interviews, and a way to be linked with knowledgeable and helpful experts on the subjects of diabetes, diabetes management, nutrition coaching, cooking, fitness coaching, and any other topic that is important to you, the reader, because it is your input and feedback that make this a symbiotic community where all of us can share our experiences and collectively come together to help one another.
I truly hope that through reading my stories and blogs, watching my videos, downloading my free eBook or healthy/unhealthy foods guide, and/or interacting with other members that The Diabetes Dominator site has the ability to serve you and add value to your life in a positive way, and assist you in implementing sustainable changes that will vastly improve your day-to-day quality of health and life. It is my vision that the countless people that continue to be transformed through choosing to embrace the Diabetes Dominator mentality will pass on that confidence, empowerment, excitement, information, and overall value to others so that together as a team we can create an impact on the overall health of future generations by using a concept as simple as leading by example!

From the first moment that you hear the diagnosis that your child has Diabetes, your life will never be the same. Most likely you feel like your world has been turned upside down. But the good news is that with the information and guidance available to you from our Diabetes Dominator team, you can get a handle on the situation and find your way to your family’s “new normal”. Denial, anger, fear, sadness, frustration, and helplessness – emotions threaten to overwhelm. Endless questions will arise, and fortunately, there are answers for you – right here! I wish that there was a resource like Diabetes Dominator to help me to cope at the time of Daniele’s diagnosis in 1991. It’s hard to imagine now, but we did not have a computer or internet at that time. The abundant sources of information that are so easily available to us today did not exist.
The education (and I use that term very loosely) that we received from our medical professionals was sadly inadequate. Even today, many doctors do not provide comprehensive information to patients newly diagnosed with diabetes. And most doctors are not experts in nutrition; hopefully that is changing, but the truth is that most doctors just don’t have the time and training to delve deeply into the nutritional requirements of their individual patients. That is why it is so important to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and experience that Daniele, Bill, and I can offer to you. If you are a newly diagnosed diabetic, a parent, caregiver, or family member of a diabetic, or just someone who is seeking all around optimal health, we can open up a whole new world of understanding and support. Read Daniele’s blogs and watch her videos to learn details of little things that can improve your life every day and help you to avoid many of the many mistakes that we have made over the years. And we are always here to answer your questions or just as a place to vent!
All of this has led us to this place of optimism and exhilaration knowing that we have the ability to help so many people. My daughter is the epitome of a success story; her passion and enthusiasm inspires me every day. And my son-in-law keeps us motivated, on point, and amused with his strength, intelligence, and sense of fun! I couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments and of their mission to impart knowledge to those who seek an enhanced quality of life. I am truly blessed to be a part of the Diabetes Dominator family team!
Meet Daniele’s husband Bill. Bill’s specialties lie in the area of self-empowerment, self-improvement, time management, and optimal performance for everyday living. “Everyone has had a successful moment in their life. If they can do it once in one area, I can help show them how they can replicate that in any other area of their choosing.” Bill draws on his experience as an Innovation and Cybersecurity Consultant and Project Manager for a top 10 federal consulting firm, a veteran of the US Army (maxing out his physical fitness scores), a personal trainer, and many years playing sports including track and field, rowing, boxing, wrestling, and martial arts in order to design results-based action plans to bring his clients to their next level.
After receiving pre-diabetic test results one too many times, Bill (and Daniele!) had enough. He teamed up with Daniele and together they continued their research and put all of their knowledge on diabetes, health, nutrition, performance measurement systems and project management together to come up with a repeatable and sustainable game plan for achieving health successes. This system took Bill out of the pre-diabetic danger zone and he has never returned. He has a strong drive to show others the keys to empowering themselves to live healthier, happier, more energetic lives… Dominator Style. “We get busy and let our priorities arrange themselves. I’ve been there. At first you’re a few pounds overweight, and next thing you know your 20 pounds overweight and that begins to feels normal. Even being just 20 pounds overweight can have extremely detrimental health effects. It can be tough to snap yourself out of pattern of unhealthy living, and that’s why we’re here to offer guidance, to lead by example to show what can be accomplished, and to provide you with a proven system for making it happen.”
