I had so much fun interviewing Tony in this week’s episode! He’s a fun, generous, overall great guy who loves being of service to the diabetes community. We originally met at the first Diabetes UnConference in 2015, then stayed in touch and got the chance to hang out again a couple of months ago at the 2016 Masterlab sessions in Orlando.
In this interview we talk about the incredible power of peer to peer support, following his passion for riding bikes to raise money for diabetes awareness, and using Afrezza as his ONLY fast acting insulin. Lots of good stuff in there!
Tony Hightower was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 13, and has spent his adult life seeking to raise awareness, educate, and support diabetes research efforts.
As an avid cyclist, Tony co-founded a cycling team called “Duck Fiabetes,” and has leveraged this passion to raise over $60,000 for the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure. Tony was also recently a camp counselor at Camp Hodia, a camp for diabetic youth, to 12 teenage boys.
He was born and raised in Northern California, and owns and operates an industrial Shrink wrap business.
