Hallie Wiedner is a recent University of Dayton grad who now works at a nonprofit in Nashville. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age ten. Landis Wiedner (Hallie’s big sister) is the co-creator of the series Type One, a comedy about Matt, a guy in his 20s with type 1 diabetes who’s looking for love.
Landis was inspired to create this comedy series in order to highlight the day to day happenings of a person living with diabetes after living with Hallie in a studio apartment and getting much closer view of what life with diabetes really entails. She also wanted to put a (in my opinion much-needed) humorous spin on some of the crazy things those of us living with diabetes experience in the unpredictable dating scene, especially when we encounter others who have no clue about what diabetes is really like.
They are currently running a Kickstarter (crowdfunding) campaign in order to raise money to keep the series going. Follow the link below to watch the first episode, and if you like what you see and want to see more, pledge to the project for a variety of cool prizes and rewards! It’s about time we saw a TV show where the main character has diabetes, and the information/experiences they portray are actually realistic 🙂
