This week’s interview is with Joe Solowiejczyk. Joe is a diabetes nurse educator and a family therapist, who specializes in making the connection between how families communicate to how people take care of themselves. He is also the author of A Type 1 Diabetes Guide to the Universe: A Mile in My Shoes, and has had type 1 diabetes for 55 years.
Joe is a no nonsense guy with a heart of gold. When I met him last July at the Friends for Life diabetes conference in Orlando, I knew we were kindred spirits whose purpose in life is to help others find their way to their best health.
We chatted about his diagnosis, and how he teaches other families who are affected by diabetes to live healthy, happy lives through years of experience, both of his own and with his patients. As Joe so aptly puts it regarding diabetes care: “You don’t have to like it, you just have to do it.”
