While interviewing Jenny Smith, an awesome CDE living with diabetes who works with Gary Scheiner at Integrated Diabetes Services, it felt like I was chatting with an old friend. She shares her story of diagnosis and lots of great tips for thriving with diabetes. Jenny has an incredibly upbeat attitude that is just fun to interact with. She attended a diabetes-specific sports training camp in 2008 where she discovered her passion for achieving fitness goals while living healthfully with diabetes. In 2009 she successfully completed her first triathlon (wow!) This brought a deeper understanding of athletic training requirements and the importance of nutrition to realize athletic goals while living with diabetes. She really offers an incredible wealth of knowledge on many subjects!
Jenny holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition and Biology, is a Registered (and Licensed) Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, and Certified Trainer on most makes/models of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring systems. She is an active member of the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators and Team WILD (We Inspire Life with Diabetes). She is also a contributing author for the Diabetes Sisters website. Basically, she’s just awesome 🙂
