Interviewing Dr. Stephen Ponder was such an amazing experience for me. I’ve been following his work for a while, and even watched some of his videos online, but I never got the full dose of his true, fun-loving, humorous, positive personality until we chatted “face-to-face” on Google Hangouts! What an awesome role model. A pediatric endocrinologist that has been living with type 1 diabetes himself for almost 50 years, and who still has the needles he used to have to boil and re-use as a way to educate his current patients…so cool!
On top of being awesome in general, and being happily married for 30 years with 3 grown children of his own, Dr. Ponder has also directed one of the largest children’s diabetes camping programs in the country; the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas for the past 30 years. His lighthearted, straight-forward approach to his method of best managing blood sugars, Sugar Surfing, has now been turned into a book that I can’t wait to get my hands on (links below video on YouTube).
Sometimes you chat with someone and click right away, and that’s how I felt after this interview. I can’t wait to have the chance to get to Texas someday soon and meet Dr. Ponder in person 🙂
